The Popping Stone in the 1860s

The "old shape" Popping Stone in a photograph dateable from the women's costumes to around 1860.

Melanie Gardner, Curator of Fine Arts at Tullie House Museum said "The photograph dates from about 1860. The women are wearing typical fashions of the period - a distinctive skirt worn over a large crinoline. They are dressed for the outdoors and wore the large shawls for warmth. It was however fashionable to wear large shawls at this time."
