Postcards of Mumps Hall
Postcards (in my collection) postmarked 1908 and 1913, where the photographer has gone to some trouble to include both Mumps Hall and Merrilies Cottage in the photo. Both are titled "Mumps Hall, Gilsland". I have not yet seen an Edwardian postcard with a plain frontal shot of Mumps Hall.
Auty series postcard postmarked May 1908. Although it is titled "Mumps Hall, Gilsland" Mumps Hall is almost invisible in the background. The photo seems to have been composed to include both Merrilies Cottage and Mumps Hall.
Postcard rebranded Gregg, Gilsland but carrying a publisher’s serial number, postmarked June 1913. Again, the photo seems to have been composed to include both Merrilies Cottage and Mumps Hall, otherwise, surely, the conventional way to photograph the frontage of a building would be from directly in front.
